Bandstanding

UCLAN student Pete Dent and colleague Davydd Pattinson  outside Octopus HQ  where they will be working on Pete’s  Octopus /FON commission.  Pete’s Course requires what he describes as a Real World brief, and with our varied and arcane knowledge of the real world we’ve supplied one, which will lead to a performance /installation at Barrow Park Bandstand on April the 15th.  Pete begins work tomorrow, in the remaining 8 square feet of space that isn’t taken up with flight cases and broken  tape recorders.

SOUND OBJECTS Exhibition, Barrow Sixth Form College.

Oct 2009…Barrow Sixth Form College has an excellent arts  department, and we were lucky enough to be able to use a lot of thier facilities during FON 2009.   Manchester music boffins Owl Project gave a performance and demonstration of their current I-LOG  project, and we installed the first of the Sound Object exhibitions,  presenting some examples of packaging-as-editioning , or as a means of combining fine art ideas with musical content. Drawing on the festival bill, the exhibits included Faust’s transparent first lp, John Wall’s Blood-bag sleeve for “hylic”, Matthew Bower’s individually painted  boxes, Richard Young’s Sackcloth single bag and  PIL’s “Metal Box.”

Thanks to B6FC’s Colin Aldred and Sue Deakin for thier help.
