Open call for new Board members and Chair

Octopus Collective are a sound art and new music organisation based in a public park on Cumbria’s Furness Peninsula managed by a Board that meets on a quarterly basis that has previously been supported by an advisory panel. Octopus became an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) in 2012 and our principal activity is the commissioning and presentation of new work for the Full of Noises festivals and events.

We are looking to recruit Board members, including a Chair to help guide the organisation through an exciting and challenging time building on our many achievements over the last few years and re-focusing our activities and facilities to enable us to face the future with confidence.

We are interested in hearing from candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

  • Academic, particularly in the field of contemporary music and sound arts.
  • Business Development and operations
  • Media, Public Relations
  • Fundraising
  • Finance
  • Law

Octopus is looking for inspiring, ambitious and well-connected individuals with good business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to the arts, to contribute to the strategic growth of the organisation. Our Board Members need to be proactive and influential ambassadors for the organisation, ensure good governance, ensure current business, employer and company responsibilities are implemented and able to attend some events in addition to quarterly Board meetings. We understand that Barrow in Furness is not easily reached by many so we expect to hold a majority of our meetings in Lancaster.

Serving on our board is unpaid but we can offer contributions towards travel expenses and complimentary tickets to all of our events. We particularly welcome applications from those with relevant skills and experience who would not normally consider themselves for these posts.

Please complete the short online expression of interest form, outlining why you wish to join the board and the skills and experience you bring to bear. Please include a CV of no more than 2 sides A4.
