November 2012
Meet the Residents…
This month we have two new additions to our residency programme for 2012/13.
Liverpool based composer and producer Jon Hering (of a.P.A.t.T / a.P.A.t.T Orchestra and Ex-Easter Island Head fame) was selected from our first open call for North West based composers and will be developing a new acoustic work for FON 2013. Look out for more news on this over the next few months.
We are also delighted to announce that Lauren Redhead has accepted our offer of a short residency in early 2013 to develop a new work for us. Early discussions suggest that this will involve a local Brass Band and a church organ which was originally built for the Chapel Royal of St. James Palace and was played at the wedding of Queen Victoria before eventually being moved to a church in Barrow in 1868.
Lauren is a composer, academic and organist who has a particular interest in New Experimental Music for organ with (and without) electronics. This confluence of the old and the new is an emerging trend in a our work and relationships this year and it is one we are happy to embrace. Needless to say we are very excited to be working with Lauren and look forward to welcoming her to Barrow in the New Year. If you cannot wait until next year we notice that she is appearing in a Festival of Radical Organ Music in Edinburgh in December – wonder what Klaus Wunderlich would make of that?
Jon and Lauren complete our residency lineup for 2012/13 alongside Ryoko Akama, Lee Gamble and Tom Scott.
